PACE Traineeship – The perfect transition from new graduate to competent clinician
PACE Health Management our mission is to be the leaders in exercise prescription and health behaviour change in Victoria.
The PACE culture has always been underpinned by our focus on shared learning, mentoring and ongoing professional, personal and clinical development. (underpinned by our Team First Policy, Quarterly company wide PD Days, and monthly staff mentoring meetings).
In 2009 PACE Exercise Physiology was recognised as the National Exercise Physiology Practice of the Year. In the three years since we have employed 15 new exercise specialists and exercise physiologists and opened five new clinics.
In joining the PACE team you will become part of a team of 20+ professionals committed to supporting you in your transition from university to a competent clinician.
PACE will accept applications for the PACE Exercise Physiology Traineeship from November 15th-22nd each year.
The PACE Exercise Physiology Traineeship is twelve weeks in duration, and involves a minimum of 8 hours contact time per week and a maximum of 15 hours as determined by yourself and the management team.
What specifically does the traineeship provide access to for the successful applicant?
- Exercise Physiology Professional Development Program: This involves a workshop once a month with all PACE staff members who are either 3rd year exercise science up to 24 mths post EP accreditation. Both internal and external presenters deliver formalised sessions. This group also completes case studies, and is there to mentor and support each other.
- A one on one professional development session with a staff member each week on topics pertaining to clinical practice, networking, presentation skills, client service and practical knowledge
- PACE Company wide PD Days(quarterly) (15- 20 EPS) and internal studio based PD sessions (monthly)
- PACE weekly newsletters (contains shared research, exercises and company news)
- PACE Exercise Physiology lectures, presentations, case studies
- PACE literature/research articles gathered by our staff
- Bimonthly Peer Review Sessions (A senior staff member will shadow your session with a client and provide feedback/mentor you as you develop your skill
- Bimonthly individual scorecard/Key Result Area meetings – this is where you discuss your goals/strategies/how we can help you to achieve those goals with a senior staff member.
- Career development/professional mentoring by Senior Experienced Exercise Physiologists
- Provision of exercise physiology and exercise specialist (personal training) services to Clients.
Remuneration:
All PACE Exercise Physiologists will be paid at a PACE Exercise Physiology Traineeship Rate for all client hours that they complete. All professional and business development tasks will be unpaid. (a maximum of 1 hour per day)
What happens next?
At the conclusion of your traineeship contract (3 months), you will have an exit interview to discuss your achievement of KRA’s, interest in continuing with PACE (you would be paid at the PACE EP/Exercise Specialist award rate).

Include: “PACE EP Traineeship Application" and your name. The file needs to be saved as 97‐2003 Microsoft Word compatible. Application submitted outside this period will not be considered.
Email your Traineeship Application in same email but separate file, answering the criteria below:

- If you were to be accepted for a PACE Traineeship it would commence in either December or early January the following year – What would be your specific availability? And which PACE locations would you be willing to work?
- If you were given a PACE Traineeship – Identify five goals that you would like to achieve in the first 6 months with PACE? For each goal identify the strategies/actions you would undertake to achieve these goals?
- In the next twelve months – list the top three things on your “to learn list”, identify how you plan to learn these items.
- In what ways do you believe you could contribute to the development of all PACE staff’s learning and the business as a whole. What specific areas of knowledge or skills do you bring?
